Aron Kapembeza is one of Zimbabwe’s most celebrated stone sculptors. He began carving as a child under the guidance of his aunt, acclaimed sculptor Colleen Madamombe. Early exposure to the art form sparked a lifelong passion for sculpting graceful, expressive figures—especially depictions of womanhood, inspired by his upbringing.
Aron’s intuitive process allows the natural form of the stone to guide his work. “Just let the stone speak to you,” he says. His fluid style has earned international recognition, with over 50 exhibitions across Africa, Europe, Asia, and North America. His work is held in public and private collections, including permanent displays at the Muttart Conservatory in Canada and major botanical gardens in Korea and the U.S.
He has taught workshops worldwide and was the first Zimbabwean stone sculptor to hold a solo exhibition and teach in the Netherlands. Aron continues to support and mentor fellow artists in Zimbabwe.
