Tom Venner — Bowery Platform
2026, Photography, 11x14x1 in.
In Bowery Platform, tile, patched surfaces, architectural lines, and the lone “B” set into the wall define the location without the need for people in the frame. My photography begins with paying attention to places and objects that are easy to pass by. I am drawn to overlooked structures, worn surfaces, ignored details, and the quiet evidence of human presence.
Surface, geometry, color, and absence connect my images: tile, brick, wires, stains, and architectural fragments become the structure of the photograph. People are rarely present, often by intention. Their absence allows the object or place to become more direct, and in some cases more unresolved.
Bowery Platform is not meant to explain the place completely. Instead, it holds open the questions that made me stop and look more closely.
